Omaggio ad Alberto Mieli, sopravvissuto ad Auschwitz
One Living Word by Abba Kovner
No more willful silences.
No more verbal contact,
he who loved to listen to so many
will never again hear his own voice among them.
He will sit with his friends over talk
from now on under constraint.
The talk. The thoughts. The friends.
And as he listens through
the secret door
he will turn his inner ear
to the dark mumur: Son of man,
all this
and all this
never was
and never will be
as good as
one living word.[1]
[1] Una parola viva
Non più volenterosi silenzi.
Non più contatto verbale,
colui che amava ascoltare i tanti
non sentirà mai più la sua voce in mezzo a loro.
Si siederà con i suoi amici per discorsi
d’ora in poi costretti.
I discorsi. I pensieri. Gli amici
E mentre ascolta attraverso
la porta segreta
porgerà l’orecchio interiore
al segreto sussurro: figlio dell’uomo,
tutto questo
e tutto questo
non è mai stato
e mai sarà
buono come
una parola viva.
